A variety of sources emit air pollutants into our atmosphere in the form of gases like nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and ammonia (NH3) or very small particles, called fine particulate matter (PM2.5).
The following pie chart shows the contribution of each source type to the 147,693 tonnes of smog-forming emissions which were generated in the Lower Fraser Valley in 2005.
